As Jaguar's coupes and sedans continue to become more compelling
and Land Rover's SUVs more contemporary and capable, these improvements
highlight a weak spot: infotainment systems. At the same time, the face
of infotainment is changing, as technology like Apple's CarPlay and
Google's Android Auto appear to be the frontrunners for the next
generation of in-car connectivity and more traditional nav systems may
be on the way out. What better time for Jaguar to up its connectivity
game?
At the New York Auto Show, Jaguar unveiled its all-new 2016 XF sedan, which uses a new infotainment system with an available 10.2-inch screen. One aspect of the customizable, knob-free InControl Touch Pro system is designed to be similar to using a cell phone. An owner downloads the InControl Apps app on his/her cell phone -- either iOS or Android -- which allows them to use apps through the car's touch screen. Jaguar Land Rover worked with Bosch on this system, which provides a safe way to access news, navigation and traffic, Internet radio and more.
Even though the 2016 XF is the only vehicle with the new infotainment system, the InControl Apps interface can be used in many 2015 Jaguar and Land Rover models, including the F-Type coupe and convertible, Land Rover LR4 and Range Rover Evoque.
