NBA officiating report notes incorrect late call in Lakers' loss to Heat

The Lakers (16-44) lost a close battle in Miami to the Heat (27-33), falling, 100-94, on Wednesday night.

According to the NBA's "Last Two Minute Report," of the seven calls or non-calls made over the final two minutes of play, Jordan Hill's foul on Hassan Whiteside with 15.6 seconds left was an incorrect call.

With the Lakers down 97-94, Jordan Clarkson missed a three-point attempt, which was rebounded by Whiteside.  Hill was called for a foul, which sent the young center to the line for two free throws.  Whiteside converted one, to push Miami up by four.

"Contact by Hill (LAL) with Whiteside (MIA) is part of his effort to reach for the loose ball," reads the officiating report, a new effort by the NBA to increase transparency.

Reports on every call (and non-call) over the final two minutes of close games will be available the following day, provided the score is within five points at the two-minute mark of regulation.

Whether or not the Hill foul would have impacted the final outcome is impossible to say.  Whiteside had cleanly procured the rebound, followed by a pass to Luol Deng as the whistle blew.

The officials made four correct calls over the final two minutes, a pair on each team -- along with one correct non-call per squad.
